In-form Spalding Water Polo look to have secured their status in Herts League Division One for next season after an impressive 15-11 win over Bedford Water Polo last week.

The first quarter was very tight at the Castle Sports Complex pool, with both teams finding it hard to break through the each other’s defence.

Spalding finished 2-0 at the end of the quarter, with goals by Ben Marsters and Ed Martin. Scores came thick and fast from both teams in the second quarter, ending at 6-6 at half time, with goals coming from Martin (2), Marsters and Tim Shield.

Spalding quickly stamped their authority in the third quarter, with the aid of a brilliant hat-trick from Jack Carpenter.

Further goals from skipper Steve Rogers and Ed Martin enabled Spalding to finish this quarter with a lead of 11-8.

They continued to dominate the match in the final quarter and sealed their success with a Jordan Templer effort and a hat-trick from Shield.
Rogers said: “This is our first season in Division One and are currently second.

“With one more game to go, we are in a strong position to secure our place next season.”
