Spalding RFC bidding to bounce back from relegation as new season kicks-off

Spalding RFC get their new Midlands Three (East) season under way with a trip to Belper on Saturday (3pm).

Town, who were relegated last season, are playing at their lowest level in recent memory – but will be bidding to bounce back under the stewardship of new skipper Richard Cooke.

Ash Piccaver and Jason Steels will both act as his vice captains, while George Reid will remain on as coach. Former captain Harry Sharman has also returned to the squad as one of a number of summer signings.

The early signs are encouraging, with Spalding haven beaten higher-graded Stamford in pre-season.

FIXTURES

Belper v Spalding; Birstall v Sleaford; Buxton v Sileby Town; Grimsby v Rolls Royce; Kesteven v Nottingham Moderns; Long Eaton v Mansfield
