Spalding ready for the big Christmas switch-on

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas with Spalding getting ready for Saturday’s festive lights switch on.

The official turning on of the Christmas tree lights is due to take place around 5pm on Saturday, amid a day of celebration in the Market Place.

Santa himself will be in town accompanied by the Rotary Club of South Holland.

Spalding’s market traders will be out in force joined by a special Polish Christmas Fair.

There will also be plenty of entertainment throughout the day.

The Spalding Brass Band will be playing from 11.30am to 12.30pm while Diamondz Dance DG and the cast of Aladdin, the South Holland Centre’s pantomime, will be among the performers.

As well as choir singing during the afternoon, there will also be a special talent competition that’s open to anyone aged under 18.

There’s cash prizes for those who finish first, second and third in the competition.

One of the organisers, Jan Whitbourn, said: “It should be a good event and we’re looking at building it up in the next few years.”
