A Spalding primary school took delivery of a new kitchen on Saturday (July 11).
St John the Baptist in Hawthorn Bank was successful in a bid to the government to receive funding for a kitchen to be able to supply fresh hot meals to their pupils on site.
The school said: “The kitchen comes in the form of a pod in which there is a fully furnished kitchen that would be large enough to be able to serve meals to all 430 children.
“The plan is for the kitchen to be up and running for term 2 2015 once all services are linked up to the kitchen.”
The school’s new chef Martin Reid is working on an inspiring menu, using high quality, fresh ingredients from local suppliers.
The school added: “Martin is really keen to produce a menu that the children have had lots of input into.
“The children will also have a fresh salad bar every day and fruit readily available in addition to their main meal and desert.”
The kitchen will become part of the drive to teach children the Farm to Fork message. With plans to introduce an allotment to the school grounds in September children will grow their own fruit and vegetables and enjoy eating them in their lunches.
