Spalding man was three times the legal alcohol limit in 2pm collision

A Spalding driver involved in a traffic collision, was found to be three times over the legal alcohol limit at two in the afternoon.

Kestas Zickus, 51, of Pennygate, admitted driving with excess alcohol and without insurance when he appeared before District Judge Peter Veits sitting at Boston Magistrates Court.

Prosecuting, Lou Johnson said police came across the two vehicle collision at West Elloe Avenue at 1.55pm on April 16 and Zickus was arrested after he gave a positive breath test, with a later reading of 105 microgrammes of alcohol in his breath, the legal limit being 35.

Mitigating, Matthew Tye said Zickus claimed he had drunk most of the alcohol the previous day and only a ‘couple of drinks’ that morning.

Judge Veits told Zickus “I dread to think how much alcohol you had the day before to be three times over the limit at two in the afternoon.”

He banned Zickus from driving for two years but offered him the drink drivers’ rehabilitation course which will reduce the period of the ban by six months.

He was also fined £600 and ordered to pay a total of £145 in court costs and charges.
