Spalding man drove daughter to hospital while over drug-drive limit

Magistrates told a “hard working family man” from Spalding that they “had some sympathy” with his situation after they heard he had lost his job after driving with excess cannabis in his system.

Kyle Courtman-Young (23) of Third Avenue, Spalding admitted driving with 3.4 microgrammes of cannabis per litre of blood in Carrington Road, Spalding, when he appeared before Boston Magistrates Court.

The legal limit is 2 microgrammes.

Paul Wood, prosecuting, said Courtman-Young was stopped by police on March 16 and was tested after the officers smelt cannabis on him.

Mitigating, Suleman Baig said Courtman-Young was a “hard working family man” who took cannabis to help him sleep.

He said that on this occasion he had unexpectedly had to take his daughter to hospital and he was stopped by the police as he was driving home.

He said he had not smoked for six or seven hours before he was stopped and had had no intention of driving except for his daughter’s sudden illness.

He said that as a result, Courtman-Young would now lose his job.

The magistrates said they had “some sympathy” for him, but had to ban him from driving for a year.

He was also fined £120 and ordered to pay £115 in costs and charges.
