Spalding main road to remain closed for another month

Part of Winsover Road in Spalding is expected to remain closed for another month while repair work on a collapsed sewer continues.

The road has been shut at its junction with Bourne Road and Hawthorn Bank since mid-December.

Anglian Water said on December 30 that it hoped to have the A151 reopened by Monday, January 9, but today (Friday, January 6) revised its estimate to early February.

A lorry turns into Carrington Road to get around the road closure.

A spokesman said: “Just before Christmas our teams were called to a collapsed sewer main on Winsover Road in Spalding. Unfortunately this meant we’ve had to close the road and put diversions in place while our teams are working. We have been working in the area since then.

“Unfortunately, this repair is going to take some time, so it’s likely the road will remain closed until early February.

“To complete the repair we’re going to need to hand dig about 6m underneath the sewer pipe so we can avoid making any damage to the other utility pipes, such as gas and water.

“Our priority is to ensure we’re carrying out the work safely not only for our own staff, but members of the public too. We are sorry for any disruption local residents and road users have experienced since the work began and thank them for their patience while we’re making the repairs.”
