Two of Spalding Indoor Bowls Club’s most promising juniors have qualified for the regional finals of the 2016 School of Excellence.
Aaron Barnes and Jonathan Field travelled to Grantham IBC and claimed the top two qualifying places, with just one point separating the two.
It was Barnes who emerged as the winner, pipping his team-mate by that solitary shot.
- Spalding IBC’s friendly team fell just short of pulling off a remarkable comeback in the second leg of the annual Welland Salver Trophy.
After a disappointing first leg, Spalding needed a 30-shot victory against Stamford to lift the Trophy.
Despite an early lead for the visitors, Spalding took control in the second half. The match was touch and go, with Spalding needing to stretch their lead and Stamford desperately trying to reduce the deficit.
In the end, Spalding won the game 128-99 – an agonising single shot short of a remarkable comeback. They won on three rinks, lost two and drew one. Best winning rink was Jenny Collins, Terry Grimshaw, Grace Scott and skip Maisie Belding. Geoff Craft was captain for the day.
