Talented Spalding Indoor Bowls Club duo Rebecca Simpson and Annie Dunham were part of the England team that narrowly lost the Home International series.
Played at the Llanelli Indoor Bowls Club from March 11-13, Dunham retained her place in the team at number three with skip Ellen Falkner, whilst Simpson was making her debut for the senior side playing number two for Sophie Tolchard.
In the opening match against the hosts Wales, Dunham’s rink lost a close match 17-19, with Simpson registering a 26-9 victory, in an overall team win by 121 shots to 112.
The second match against Ireland was a formality, with England recording a 166-63 scoreline. Dunham won 38-5 and Simpson 23-10.
That result set up a final match showdown with Scotland, who had won both of their matches.
A close match throughout saw Scotland take control towards the end, with one England rink losing 35-8.
Dunham’s set recorded a 19-13 win, while Simpson lost by a single shot, 22-23.
Overall, both girls recorded two wins out of three and gave an excellent account of themselves.
- Spalding IBC won their latest friendly fixture, which was played at March IBC on March 13.
By the halfway stage March had taken a two-shot lead, which they maintained until towards the end.
With the finish line fast approaching, Spalding turned up the heat and raced into the lead, eventually recording a 63-56 victory, winning on two rinks and drawing on two.
The best winning rink for Spalding was Chris Broughton, Gill Haydon, Kelvin Crane and skip Roger Perkins, while Geoff Craft was captain for the day.
- Spalding IBC’s junior ‘A’ and ‘B’ teams were in action on March 12 against Boston and Stamford respectively.
The ‘A’ team of Danielle Wild, Aaron Barnes, Keiran Crane and Jordan Philpott had a very good 23-17 win away at Boston.
Meanwhile, the ‘B’ team of Harry Mycock, Emily Day, Morgan Sillett and Aaron Wild – playing at home – found the going pretty tough against a very strong Stamford side.
Nevertheless, they put up a spirited performance and gained valuable experience.
- Spalding’s B side enjoyed a good 120-67 win at home against Stamford on March 12 – earning 17 match points which will help them climb the county league table.
The best winning rink was R Walpole, G West, J Taylor and M Taylor, with the captain for the day being R Walpole.
