Spalding Hockey Club’s sessions extended after their popularity

Spalding Hockey Club are extending their Wednesday morning taster sessions for juniors due to their popularity.

Around 80 youngsters have so far attended the opening three sessions which are held in conjunction with the South Holland District Council’s summer fun programme.

An extra session has now been arranged for this coming Wednesday from 9.30-11am at the all-weather pitch at Surfleet’s Glen Park.

Any youngsters who have been inspired by the performances of the Great Britain women in the Rio Olympics and would like to have a go at hockey are welcome to attend. Cost is £3 with sticks available if required.

The autumn term of the club’s popular Saturday morning junior coaching programme starts on Saturday, September 3, from 9.15-10.45am and will run weekly through to Saturday, December 10.

Again the club welcomes boys and girls aged 5-14 years of all abilities from complete beginners through to those preparing to start on their senior league careers.

The cost is £3 per session or a term rate of £30 for the 15-week programme to cover pitch hire and equipment costs.

Spalding will once again have several teams competing in the Lincolnshire leagues at under-12 and under-14 age levels at which they are the current county champions.

The Academy, started last year in order to provide 11-a-side hockey for 11-14 year olds, will be expanded this season on the back of last year’s success with a comprehensive range of league and friendly matches arranged throughout the campaign.

  • Spalding’s adult sides begin their East League campaigns next month.

The men’s first team face a trip to Cambridge University 2nd in their Premier B Division opener on Saturday, September 17.

The ladies have a home start to their Division 2NW campaign when they play host to St Neots on the same day at Glen Park.
