Spalding Golf Club’s Seniors roar to big win over rivals Milton

Spalding Golf Club’s senior side romped to a 5.5-2.5 victory over rivals Peterborough Milton.

Captain Mike Gould and his partner David Tasker led the way and won their match 5&4.

Tasker, in particular, played some excellent golf in Cambridgeshire.

Richard Edwards and Shaun Gibson then came home with a half, while Andy Reedman and Rod Hunt had a good battle and ended up winners by 2&1.

Barrie Hudson and Lester Pybus ripped up the course, finishing with a fine 6&5 success.

Roger Davey and Paddy Goslyn had a real fight and were dormie four, before just missing out on a half on the last hole, losing one down.

Stuart Fitzjohn and Gerald Cox had a convincing 4&3 win, but Albert Jacobs and Rod Filby lost by one hole.

Jim Dobson and Robert Sampson came in last with a good 3&2 win to round off the victory.

  • Spalding’s senior side followed that win up with a battling half against Belton Park.

Gould and Jacobs found the going tough, but came home with a half. Neil Wilkinson, now back on form, and Sampson had a good win 4&3 – as did Roger Davey and Lester Pybus.

Dobson and Hunt suffered a rare 2&1 defeat, while Steve Leggett and Filby could not get the scores together and lost 3&2.

Tony Holbrook and Alan Pritchard battled for a half, but Mike Browning and Bernard Herbert lost 3&2.

The final pairing was crucial and Peter Dewar and Peter Sanders pulled it off with a fine 2&1 win to half the match overall.
