Spalding Golf Club’s men are up to scratch as they beat Cleethorpes to county crown

Spalding Golf Club’s top men’s team have been crowned Lincolnshire Scratch League champions for the first time in more than ten years.

The team, who were champions of the South Lincolnshire League this season, defeated North Lincolnshire winners Cleethorpes on their own course to clinch the crown.

Spalding’s last victory in the competition was way back in 2008.

  • A team from Spalding seniors’ section saw off nine other clubs to win the annual Wilkinson Cup at South Kyme.

Spalding finished first with an aggregate team score of 200 points, with Rick Edwards and Monty Brittain picking up the prize for the best pair (72 points).

The competition was played in testing conditions, with strong winds and a wet course due to the recent bad weather. The team comprised of Peter Bridge, Jim Dobson, Edwards, Brittain, Dave Halfteck and Neil Wilkinson.
