Spalding Golf Club ladies’ storm to brilliant Mail on Sunday win at Boston

The ladies of Spalding Golf Club earned an excellent 4-1 win at Boston in the second round of the national Mail on Sunday competition.

The team, captained by Dianne Rafferty, played some excellent golf. President Elizabeth Holbrook had a tight match but won on the 17th green by a 2&1 margin in game one, before Claire Rylott roared to an 8&7 success.

Lesley Williams made sure of a Spalding victory in the third match with a 4&3 scoreline, with games four and five halved by Anita Cross and Pat West respectively.

Round three will be drawn next week.

  • Sutton Bridge Golf Club’s Big Yellow Friday Charity Competition raised an impressive £272.50 for charity this year.

Both men and women were able to compete in the event – and it attracted a fine field.

John Caney won the men’s event ahead of Syd Caney, who edged Ralph Grimes into third on countback.

Karen Gillett beat Magaret Fox to the ladies’ title, with Anne Clarke just behind in third place.

All money raised this year will go to the Children’s Liver Disease Foundation, Sutton Bridge’s chosen charity for 2016.

  • Sutton Bridge Golf Club’s February Greensomes event was won by the pairing of Mike and Brenda Bell.

Roy Fox and Ann Davis were just behind them in second position, with Ken Green and Margaret Fox back in third position.
