If you have a love for singing, a group in Spalding will be only too pleased to welcome you.
Any age, ability and genre of music is catered for at Sing South Holland Community Choir.
The group has around 50 people enrolled but attendees have dwindled in recent years to under 20 and musical director Liz Lenten is keen to welcome fresh faces.
“There’s a real mixture of music, including contemporary and some older stuff,” said Liz, who provides guitar accompaniment. “And anything that people suggest to try, I can usually sort something.”
The group evolved from a project about five years ago called Sing Up, which encouraged local residents and new arrivals to share experiences and different cultures. It became a wonderful example of community cohesion.
Liz, a professional vocal coach with 25 years’ experience, said: “When the project came to an end, South Holland District Council said ‘no, you can’t stop this group!’ and arranged some funding for a year.
“We’ve become less of a performing group and more of a workshop group.
“There’s always been a regular turnover but lately numbers have gone downhill a little and we’d like to attract some new faces.
“There are no auditions and we offer a free trial for anyone to come and see if they like it.”
Sing South Holland, whose chairman is Martin Woods, meets in the Methodist Church Hall in St Thomas’s Road every other Wednesday (the next being on October 1) 6.30pm-8pm. Cost is £2.50 per session.
