Friends of Spalding Cemetery will hold an ‘informal meeting’ next month in the hope of forming a dedicated group to assist with a host of duties.
The meeting, which runs from 1pm to 4pm on Saturday, February 8, is for anyone interested in learning more about the heritage site and learn about how they can help, with research, photography, litter-picking and more.
Lincolnshire County Council Heritage Champion Elizabeth Sneath said: “If there is enough interest we would like to meet there every few months and perhaps help tidying the site, do further research and raise awareness of this wonderful heritage gem in the heart of our town.”
Coun Sneath said Andrew Hill, of Pinchbeck, has been researching the cemetery and found the grave of a 7ft-tall workhouse resident and the grave of a young boy who was the first person to be buried there.

At Tuesday’s Spalding Town Forum meeting, Spalding Cemetery was one of three causes recommended for ‘urgent’ extra funds.
