Spalding and District Table Tennis League’s top tier title race is tight going into 2017

The extra week which the Spalding and District Table Tennis League utilised at the end of 2016 proved to be well attended and resulted in two fixtures being continued.

These both had a bearing on the positions at the top of Division One as the league moves into 2017 with all to play for.

Outsiders were involved in both, firstly with JDM and then with Jokers.

The first of these matches had been held over at 1-1 and John Chesworth quickly put JDM in the lead with a straight sets win.

The doubles followed and Keith Davey and Joe Beadle levelled up, also in three before Chesworth took the final singles and the match.

JDM now move up to third, three behind South Holland.

In their other match, Outsiders trailed Jokers 0-2, and, despite their best efforts in going down in five ends to Phil Coote in the third singles, and in four in the doubles, they are now losing 0-4.

This score means that Jokers have closed to within a point of South Holland at the top, while the gap between the top half and the bottom now stretches to eight points.

League matches resume on January 11. If any team cannot fulfil their fixture they should inform their opponents and the committee.
