The Spalding and District Table Tennis League – having finished last season later than expected – now finds itself half way through its summer break.
July turned out to be a bit of a mixed month for the league, with attendances varying between full and half full, while one night was lost altogether.
On a positive note, every table was out and being used at some stage, sometimes by doubles as well as singles.
But the opposite has also been true, with barely half the tables used some weeks, even by singles games.
However, the league have been able to welcome a few visitors and are now into the local Summer Fun campaign, welcoming juniors last week and hopefully others in the remaining weeks of the promotion.
Anyone coming will be able to play against the members who are there or receive coaching or both. The league hopes that the taster might lead to more active participation in the future.
On that note, it seems most likely that the AGM and presentations will take place in early September.
The former is especially important, with the changes taking place in the committee, but also the committee are looking to confirm those wishing to play in next season’s league.
Being part of a ready-made team – two players are necessary but more would be helpful – would be good for the league.
But it would be possible for the league to find individual players a team at a level to suit them, whether beginner or more experienced.
Meanwhile, holders of trophies are reminded to ensure that they have been returned to Garry as soon as possible.
The league continues to meet every Wednesday from 7.30pm at the Castle Sports Complex in Spalding and are looking forward to welcoming any potential new members.
There is a charge of £3 for those in attendance to cover costs.
