Spalding and District Darts League treble is just reward for perfect New Saracen’s Head

Relentless New Saracen’s Head C completed a perfect season in Grays of Holbeach Spalding and District Darts League by winning the Supreme Cup on finals night.

The Division One winners, who won all 14 of their league games and amassed an amazing 100 leg victories, beat Lamb and Flag 15-6 at the Spalding Services Club event.

It was a real show of dominance from the champions, with Lamb and Flag one of their two nearest rivals in the league.

The other of their chief rivals, Ship Albion, did have reason to celebrate, though.

They kicked the night off with a 13-8 victory over Division Two champions Consti A in the Kelly Foster Cup final.

Having finished second in the Division One table, the cup triumph is the perfect way for them to end their first season in the league.

Match two was the Secondary Cup final, which saw second tier runners-up Consti Z take on third-placed Holbeach USC.

In what proved one of the closest games of the night, the Holbeach side managed an 11-10 triumph to clinch the coveted crown.

Meanwhile, the Mixed Pairs final was a little more one-sided as league stalwart Duncan Hunt and his partner Shirley Povey picked up a cool 2-0 victory over opponents Gary Mace and Claire Brookin.

There was then more success for the all-conquering New Saracen’s Head C side, as they edged out Holbeach USC 3-2 in the Triples Final.
That gave the club a terrific treble.

The Division Two Pairs crown went to Jonny Robinson and Andy Beeken, who saw off the challenge of Mark Pollitt and Mike Kearns 2-1 in a close contest.

The Division One Pairs final wasn’t quite as close, with Nick Moyses and Andy Bingham toppling Alex Gostic and Des Ford 2-0 to lift the trophy.

After a quick break for a charity collection in aid of Prostate Cancer (Peterborough Hospital), the singles showdowns rounded off the night. All four of the matches were won by a 2-0 scoreline, but that doesn’t mean they were all routine battles.

Ace thrower Dawn MacTavish won the Ladies’ Singles final, knocking off Mixed Pairs winner Povey.

The Captain’s Cup final gave Gostic the chance to banish the memory of his Division One Pairs defeat – and he did just that, seeing off Brian Fines.

There was more disappointment for defeated Division Two Pairs finalist Pollitt in the Division Two Singles, as he lost to an in-form Chris Chamberlain.

The night then closed with Steve Stancer beating Pete Richardson 2-0 in the Division One SIngles final.
