Week seven of the Spalding and District Table Tennis League saw a return to the problems of last season – with postponements and unfinished matches prominent.
In Division One, all four matches were, at least, started and this led to changes at the top of the table. Jokers faced Aches and Pains at the opposite end of the table and came away with a win, but dropped an end in the doubles and a game in their 4-1 win.
Phil Coote continued his run with two in straight ends, but Garry Wilkinson picked up the loser’s point.
That loss drops them to second spot on countback as rivals South Holland defeated Mine’s a Pint 5-0.
Although both teams are on 19, Holland go to the top on the strength of their defeat of Jokers in their match earlier in the season. Pinters did put up a brave show taking three ends against stronger opposition.
Bladerunners recovered to third after last week’s fall with a 5-0 victory over Nets and Edges. All but one of the games finished in regulation.
JDM could only field one player so their match with Outsiders saw just two singles played.
Danny Dorey added another win to his increasing haul in the top flight, but Keith Davey restored the balance for Outsiders.
In Division Two gaps are appearing, exacerbated by a string of postponements. MatDuf stretched their lead to seven, though their chasers both have a match in hand, with a 5-0 win over Win for a Curry.
All the singles went down in three ends, though Jon Matthews was forced to fight two deuces against Dylan Taylor. The experienced Phil Knowles stepped in for the doubles which went to five.
Hurricane Brothers completed their unfinished match with Chunky and Monkey Junior to win 4-1.
Tom Coley had a good night for the losers, forcing both his singles to five ends, getting a point out of one for his efforts.
With all other matches postponed Hurricanes and Skidlids have a six-point gap below them.
The two Moulton Shield semi-finals got under way but were not completed.
Jokers Sasha Martin took a point against JDM, though he had to fight over three ends and a deuce.
Nets and Edges and Bladerunners, having played out their league fixture, renewed hostilities in the Moulton. Blades took a 2-0 lead in the first two singles, but lost one of the second round before an injury halted the tie.
