South Holland celebrates World Book Day 2019

Book characters came to life across South Holland on Thursday March 7 as young people across the region celebrated World Book Day.

Young (and some older) across the district dressed in a theme to show their appreciation of books.

Many were inspired by their favourite books including Mia Holmes dressing up as Little Miss Fox and Pete Bailey monkeying around as Curious George.

Leo Smith (4) said his favourite book was the Atlas, so quick thinking mum Charlotte sewed his favourite flags onto a cleaning lanyard.

There were also slight twists on the usual dress up as a character day.

Four-year-old Bethan Wilson and friends at Spalding Primary School had to dress up as inspired by a word from a book.

She didn’t hold back with her choice and went for supercalifragilisticexpialidocious and dressing as Mary Poppins.

Monkshouse Primary School took a different approach concentrating on two books.
Nursery, reception and Key Stage One children all dressed up in one colour after reading The Day The Crayons Quit.

Key Stage Two children dressed up in a mix of green, pink, yellow, black, blue or red after reading The Colour Monster.

Deputy head Mr John Slater, said: “The Colour Monster in the book changes different colours with different emotions and we’ve been talking to children.

“We’ve been talking to the children about different emotions and about dealing with those which is an important part of their education.

“Not all children wanted to dress up in costumnes so we wanted to give it focus, look at their needs and make it about something more.”
