An elderly man is “lovin’ it” after a Spalding police officer went the extra mile to make sure he didn’t have to go without a treat.
The man was on his way to the town’s McDonald’s restaurant – which uses the “I’m Lovin’ It” tagline in its adverts – when he was involved in a minor car crash.
Emergency services arrived within minutes and after he was given the all-clear by paramedics, PC Ingmar Collison offered to take him to McDonald’s so he didn’t miss out on his meal.
The man’s son, Colin Neilson, was so impressed with the way his dad was looked after, he took to Facebook to express his gratitude.
He said: “Last night my dad crashed his car. The police were there in minutes to tend to him.
“He was on his way for a treat, a McDonalds of all things!
“They called for an ambulance and waited with him until they arrived and gave him a full examination.
“Dad is very frail these days and finds it difficult to even walk a few paces without being breathless!
“Once he was given the all clear, the officers realised he hadn’t made it to McDonalds and offered to take him there before driving him home.
“Probably not textbook but ‘doing the right thing’ and these little things make all the difference.
“Once they drove my dad home they made sure he got inside OK and settled him down.
“The officer noticed the dog’s water bowl was a little low and offered to fill it up. Again, doing the right thing.
“It’s not a heroic act that would generally receive much attention but it’s these little things that make a difference and make our world a better place.
“This is exactly how I would want someone to help my parents in their time of need.
“I am sure this is the kind of act repeated and not publicised that our police service carry out daily.
“Let’s remember them for the good they do and stop knocking them when they give you a speeding ticket etc which is our own fault.”
Mr Neilson said his dad is fine after the accident and grateful for the attention he was given by the police.
