Society gets ready for busy period

The Spalding Gentlemen’s Society Museum will be opening for visitors more frequently in the coming months.

The next Open Day will be on Sunday, December 19 between 2-4pm and then on each Wednesday starting on December 29 between 11am and 1pm.

The museum also plans to open on a Sunday afternoon once a month in 2022

A spokesman said: “Entry is free and all are welcome with no booking required. The museum is an Aladdin’s cave of fascinating items and stepping into the society’s building in Broad Street, Spalding is a trip into a bygone age, as featured on Bargain Hunt recently.”

SGS volunteers will be present at the Transported stall in Spalding Market Place each month, the next dates being January 8 and February 12.

The SGS Winter Lecture Programme is still scheduled to continue with the next lecture on January 7 featuring Dr Simon Sleight of Kings College, London and a former Spalding Grammar School pupil speaking on ‘Deep History Down Under’, an introduction to Australian history from Pangaea to Federation.

Lectures are held at the Methodist Church in Broad Street. Lectures are open to all and commence at 7.30pm with an admission fee of £3 on entry.

SGS ask that only people who are fully vaccinated or have a recent clear Covid test should attend its events.
