The chair of a group set up to oversee the COVID-19 outbreak in Lincolnshire says that social distancing is working well in the county, but the measures need to continue over the Easter weekend and beyond.
The chairman of the Lincolnshire Resilience Forum, Deputy Chief Constable Jason Harwin, said in a statement today that the county had not seen the same spike in cases as had been reported in other areas of the country.
It was in response to the County Councils Network issuing a statement earlier today saying that new cases had quadrupled in rural areas in the past three weeks and such areas had seen the largest increases in the last week.
DCC Harwin, said: “Lincolnshire hasn’t currently seen the same extent of coronavirus as many of the other rural parts of the country but we are doing everything we can to protect our communities.
“The work of our emergency services, local authorities, health services and volunteers is all being carefully coordinated to mitigate the spread of the virus as much as possible.
“Social distancing is generally working very well in the county, but it is crucial that we continue to follow the national guidance as it will save many lives.”
The public is being urged to continue to stick to social distancing rules and stay home where necessary, especially over the forthcoming Easter Bank Holiday weekend for which good weather has been predicted.
