Snooker round-up: Tulips B put skids on Bourne SC A’s title tilt

Bourne SC A missed the chance to stamp their authority on the Spalding and District Snooker League title race last Thursday night.

With leaders Services E not in action, the Bourne boys suffered a 5-1 defeat at Tulips B in their game in hand and remain second in the table as a result.

Joe Garland’s (O7) black-ball win over Michael Byrne (R14) in the penultimate frame did the job for Tulips, who are now fourth.

Elsewhere in the top tier, breaks of 37 and 31 from Sean Swinburn (O42) and 32 from Stuart Atkin (O42) steered Long Sutton A to a 5-1 victory over Boundary A.

Donington C were also on superb form as they romped to a 6-0 victory at Pyramid B. Ben Wrigglesworth (O21) starred with a 32 break for them, while team-mate Neil Reynolds (O49) sank a 25 clearance.

Jem Merrison was another player on solid form in the top tier. The O35 handicapper made a 27 clearance as his Holbeach A side pipped Tulips A 4-2.

It remains tight at the top of Division Two after the leading duo both bagged wins.

Donington A lead the way by a point after their 5-1 victory over Consti H as Tony Scully (O21) sank a 21 break.

That effort was eclipsed by Consti’s Mark German (O21), who managed a cool 25 in defeat.

Second-placed Services C were 4-2 winners at Pyramid C with breaks of 21 from Vince Fitter (O14) and Shane Cummins (O14), while Kev Fitter (O21) clinched the victory in the final frame.

Consti G were the big winners at this level, thrashing Services A 6-0.

Meanwhile, a 25 break from Steve Jennings (O21) wasn’t enough to stop Whittlesey C losing 5-1 at home to Pyramid D.

Down in Division Three, second-placed Consti I kept the pressure on long-term leaders Crowland C by seeing off Gosberton B 4-2.

Club mates Consti A also impressed with a 6-0 success over friendly foes Consti D to record the best victory at this level.

In a much tighter tussle, Graham Wakefield’s (scr) 20 break helped Bourne SC B defeat Consti E 4-2, while Gosberton C and Services D enjoyed impressive 5-1 wins over Consti C and Pyramid E respectively.
