Snooker round-up: Tulips A stun high-fliers with a maximum win

Struggling Tulips A gave their season a huge shot in the arm by whitewashing Spalding and District Snooker League Division One title hopefuls Bourne SC A 6-0 on Thursday night.

In the bottom two at the start of play, the Spalding side won a clash that was much closer than the score suggests with Brett Maddison (scr), Mike Sampson (O7) and Martin Anderson (O7) all edging to frame wins on the final black.

As ever, Tulips talisman Bren Bowman (O56) put in a stellar showing by pocketing breaks of 33 and 27, while Simon Law (scr) took the sizeable scalp of Mary Gray (O105) in frame one.

At the top, Pyramid B suffered a 4-2 reverse at Holbeach D to lose their grip on pole position.

Ian Woodberry’s (scr) final frame success got the job done for mid-table Holbeach.

That allowed Services E to move a point clear at the summit following their 4-2 victory over Services C.

Two 20 breaks from Vince Fitter (O28) and a decisive final frame triumph from Kev Emerson (R14) were their highlights.

Behind them, third-placed Holbeach A are just two points off the pace after defeating Donington A 5-1.

Mick Pearl (O14) and Jem Merrison (O42) impressed with breaks of 24 and 23 respectively in that one.

Meanwhile, a 41 break from Jack Chilvers was in vain for Services F as they went down 5-1 at Pyramid A.

In Division Two, a 29 break from John Tidwell (O14) helped leaders Boundary A stay narrowly ahead at the top as they beat friendly foes Boundary C 4-2.

It’s as you were for the top two, with second-placed Consti G still a solitary point off the pace following their 4-2 win over Consti H.

Nigel West (scr) settled that one with a black-ball success in the finale.

Third-placed Long Sutton B were also 4-2 winners, seeing off hosts Consti B with Thomas Horspool (O35) reeling off a 33 break.

The 4-2 theme continued with high-flying Services A seeing off visitors Pyramid D despite a fine 47 break from James Sharpe (O42).

Also impressing was Darrell Read (O7), who sank a 23 break as Pyramid C edged Services B 4-2 in a close tie.

Down in Division Three, Donington B lead the way by five points after a 4-2 success at Whittlesey A.

That’s after rivals Long Sutton C slipped to a 4-2 home reverse against Whittlesey B, with a black ball victory from Andy Skutela (R14) in frame three proving the difference.

Elsewhere, a fine 40 break from Stew Davies (O14) – the best from an eligible senior player this season – couldn’t stop Consti J losing 4-2 against club mates Consti C.

There was also a welcome win for basement side Services D, who knocked off Pyramid E 4-2 in a game that saw Karen Howlett (R21) and Tanya Peel (scr) secure victories on the final black.
