Snooker round-up: Top tier title race heating up nicely in Spalding and District League after leading duo falter

Just nine points separate the top six teams in Division One of the Spalding and District Snooker League after a number of surprise results on Thursday night.

Table-topping Pyramid D were the big victims as they slipped up 5-1 at home to relegation-threatened Boundary A .

A 37 break from James Sharpe (O49) couldn’t stop the Deeping side as wins from Andy Mowforth (scr), Barry Malthouse (R14), John Tidswell (O7) and Stewart Lilley (scr) earned them a valuable five points.

Pyramid stay top by two points after Services A in second also went down 4-2 at home to sixth-placed Holbeach C.

Mark Gregory’s (O28) final frame win settled that one.

Bourne SC A and Tulips A are two points further back after the former defeated the latter 5-1.

Mark Gray (O105) lit up the contest with a 60 break, but was actually the only Bourne player to lose.

Long Sutton A are also in the mix in fifth, despite going down 4-2 at Services C.

Elsewhere in the top tier, a 39 break from Neil Reynolds (O49) helped Donington C win 4-2 at Tulips B.

An unfinished 25 break from Martin Chapman (R7) also helped Pyramid A win 4-2 at Consti B, for who Mick Johnson (O35) sank a fine 30 break.

In Division Two, Consti F are still top after a 4-2 home win over Gosberton A.

A 25 clearance from Bryan Turnell was the highlight for the leaders, while Justyn Stanley (R7) won the all-important final frame.

Tulips C are now just a point off the pace in second after picking up a 4-2 victory at Sutton Bridge.

This one went the distance, but James Kingston (O21) got Tulips over the line in the final frame.

Donington A are two points further back after they edged past rivals Whittlesey C.

Tony Scully (O28) won the decisive final frame for the title hopefuls.

Boundary C are level on points with Donington in third after seeing off Consti G 4-2. Jim Howe (O49) impressed with a super 45 break for the Deeping side, while Dougie Lythgoe (O21) added a 28 break as he won the pivotal final frame.

Down in Division Three, leaders Bourne SC B saw off one of their nearest title rivals as they prevailed 4-2 at Whittlesey A.

A 38 break and a 25 clearance from Jake Mitchell (O28) and a 33 break from Charlie Sutton (O14) helped the table-toppers to glory.

Second-placed Pyramid B were also 4-2 winners as they knocked off Services D, with Lester Gaunt (O42) sinking breaks of 31 and 20.

Behind the top trio, Consti I lead the chasing pack after a 4-2 win at Whittlesey B.

In a close clash, Richard Geddes (R14) won a tight final frame to seal the points.

Meanwhile, Consti A were 5-1 winners at Gosberton B and a 24 break from Brad Brinkman (O21) steered Gosberton D to a 5-1 success of their own against Consti E.

Gosberton C also won 5-1 at Consti J.
