Snooker round-up: Table-toppers Bourne SC A finally beaten by Pyramid B

Pyramid B finally ended Bourne SC A’s winning start to the new Spalding and District Snooker League Division One season on Thursday night.

Breaks of 40, 38 and 36 from Spencer Dawkins (O49 handicap), Alfonso Palumbo (O49) and Dave Pearson (O14) respectively helped secure the win 4-2 – while Keith Duly (O21) beat Ian Clare (O14) in the final frame to seal the success.

Carl Gibson (O21) and Mark Gray (O105) did reel off breaks of 33 and 29, but it was in vain for the leaders as their winning run ended at six matches.

The top tier’s other significant run shows no sign of ending, however, with winless Tulips A defeated for a sixth game on the bounce.

Fellow strugglers Consti B were the latest team to hand them a reverse, prevailing 4-2 despite Bren Bowman’s (O49) 30 break and Martin Anderson’s (O14) 28 break. Mick Johnson (O42) sealed the victory for the hosts in the fourth frame.

The top flight’s best break came from Tulips B potter Mark Woodberry. The O56 handicapper made a fine 44 but saw his side defeated by Pyramid A. John Twell’s (O14) final frame success sealed that one.

Meanwhile, Donington C picked up a weclome 4-2 home victory over Boundary A.

Junior player Ben Wrigglesworth (O21) made a 26 break, which was the highlight of that one.

In Division Two, leaders Boundary C were also toppled as their nearest rivals Services C prevailed 4-2.

This one went down to the final frame, with Jon Bettinson (scr) beating Ash Heywood (O14) 60-7. Services ace Mike Knight (O21) reeled off a 22 clearance to ensure he won a tight third frame, too.

The two sides are now tied together on 28 points – which is two more than Donington A, who went down 4-2 at home to Whittlesey C.

Andy Gebbie’s (R7) final frame win over Tony Scully (O28) clinched the points for Whittlesey, who are now just a point behind Donington.

Another of the high-flying sides, Crowland A, suffered a 4-2 loss at Services C. That meant Ian Smith’s (scr) 24 break was in vain for them.

The big winners of the week were Consti H, who jumped off the bottom with a 6-0 victory at Long Sutton C.

Mark German (O21), Dick Morgan (R14), Seb Grimston (O21), John Holdershaw (R7) and Jason Houghton (O7) all bagged wins for jubilant Consti.

Elsewhere, a 31 break from Wayne Howard (O28) steered Long Sutton B to a narrow 4-2 triumph over Consti G.

Down in Division Three, Crowland C made it seven wins from seven with a handsome 5-1 victory over Consti D.

Second-paced Consti C only lost a point on the leaders as they picked up a 4-2 victory against club-mates Consti E. Stuart Gravil (O14) made a 23 break en-route to winning the decisive final frame for the C side.

A further point back are Pyramid E, who also managed a 4-2 win at Gosberton C.

Neil McLean (O7) was their hero with a final-frame success.
