Snooker round-up: Leaders Bourne SC C open up gap at top after beating rivals

Two of the leading sides in Division Two of the Spalding and District Snooker League clashed last week – and it was leaders Bourne SC C who emerged as big winners.

The table-toppers handed hosts Holbeach E a 6-0 reverse to keep themselves top of the pile, with Jack Chilvers (O14) and Pete Ransome (O28) bagging breaks of 28 and 20 in their respective frame victories for them.

Sean Jeynes (O7) and James Kingston (O21) also won their frames for the Bourne boys, who have eight wins from nine so far.

That leaves Bourne four clear at the top, but sends Holbeach tumbling down to the bottom six – albeit five points off fourth spot.

Staying in Division Two, Donington A edged to a 4-2 success over Whittlesey C.
In a game that went to the wire, Tony Scully (O28) saw off Neil Burton (O14) 71-53 in the last frame to give Donington the points.

It was also 4-2 as Services B got the better of hosts Bourne SC B in another close contest.

A black ball success from Fred Cummings (R7) in frame two and a triumph for Jeff Collins (R7) in the finale were key for the Spalding side.

Up in Division One, the two Pyramid clubs are going blow for blow at the summit.

Leaders at the start of play, Pyramid A made it eight victories from nine after seeing off Donington C by a narrow 4-2 margin.

Wins from Victor Rouse (R7), Matt Chapman (R7) and John Twell (O7) got the job done for the Bourne side, while Neil Reynolds (O49) made a cool 24 break for Donington.

Pyramid C went one better than their club mates and moved level on points with them after a 5-1 home win over Consti G.

Richard Skellett (O14) and cue ace Jason Green (O63) shone for the high-fliers with breaks of 34 and 27 for the victorious hosts.

Meanwhile, two of the other sides in the top five at the start of play clashed – and it was Holbeach C who romped to a 6-0 whitewash win over Sutton Bridge B.

Dan Ashton (scr), Damian Lewis (R14), Mark Gregory (O28), Nick Edwards (R7) and Shaun Lee (O28) all secured frame wins for Holbeach, with Gregory making a 22 break.

Sutton Bridge’s Sean Swinburn (O49) pocketed breaks of 25 and 21 in defeat.

Another of the title hopefuls, Bourne SC A, were on winning form too as they knocked off Consti E 5-1.

As ever, Mark Gray (O105) headlined with a 40 break, while team-mate Ian Gibson (scr) chipped in with a fine 25 too.
Services A are another side going well – and that continued with a 6-0 success over Consti B.

Martin Spencer (O21) shone with two breaks of 31, while Vince Fitter (O28) and Mike Knight (O21) each made scores of 27.

The other top tier game saw Holbeach D thrash Pyramid D 5-1 in a match ended by Ian Woodberry’s (R7) 25 clearance.

In Division Three, Gosberton B remain top after edging out club mates Gosberton C in the closest of finales. Chris Mumby (R14) pipped Stuart Tamplin (scr) on the last black of the match to win 44-43 and give the B side a 4-2 triumph.

Title rivals Pyramid B won by the same margin at Consti C in a game that saw Lester Gaunt (O42) sink a 24 break and junior player Reegan Cooke-Holmes (R7) manage a cool 21.

Elsewhere, Whittlesey A picked up a 5-1 win at Gosberton D as Andy Gebbie (R7), Graeme Sawyer (O7) and Malc Bruce (O7) all won black ball games.

A 30 break from George Phillips (O14) helped Services E defeat Holbeach B 4-2, while Consti J got past Donington D by the same score.
