Snooker round-up: Holbeach B hand second tier leaders Long Sutton A rare loss

Nobody has accrued more points in Spalding and District Snooker League than Long Sutton A – but they were hammered 5-1 at Holbeach B last week.

The shock result of the week shouldn’t hamper Sutton’s Division Two title hopes, but it does give the second tier’s chasing pack a glimmer of hope. Hosts Holbeach had frame wins from Zac Rowlett (O7), Barry Haynes (R7), Ben Harding (O7) and Phil Coaten (O14) to thank for their triumph.

Second-placed Consti G beat Pyramid C 5-1 to move within 18 points of the table-toppers – but they do have a game in hand.

A point further back, and also with a game in hand on the leaders, are Consti B after they won 4-2 at now fourth-placed Long Sutton B.

A 24 break from Phil Goodman (O35) was in vain for Sutton, with Martin Fear (scr) settling the contest in the penultimate frame.

Services F are now level on points with Sutton B in fifth, having beaten Gosberton A 4-2. Jack Chilvers (O28) starred with a 32 break for the Spalding side, who are 20 points off top spot but just two points from second.

Elsewhere, a 22 clearance from Paul Spicer (scr) couldn’t stop Crowland C losing 4-2 at Consti H and basement side Gosberton D were handed a 5-1 home reverse by Whittlesey C.

Up in Division One, Donington C’s title bid faltered further as they crashed 4-2 at home to rivals Holbeach A – who are now level on points with them.

Jem Merrison (O35) starred with 31 break for Holbeach, who sealed their win when Bobby White (O21) knocked off Neil Favell (O21).

Both sides are now on 91 points, three behind leaders Tulips B – who now have two games in hand.

At the other end of the table, Services C earned a big derby win as they defeated high-flying hosts Tulips A.

A 34 break from talisman Bren Bowman (O56) wasn’t enough for the home side.

Basement boys Gosberton B also found some form to bag a 4-2 victory at Bourne SC A – who remain in the relegation mix themselves.

Wins from David Nichols (R21), Martin Ulyatt (scr) and Sam Craft (R7) got the job done for them.

Also on winning form last week were Boundary A, who defeated Services A 5-1, and Holbeach D, who saw off Boundary B 4-2.

The latter game saw Paul Daw (O7) and Dougy Lythgoe (O7) both make 20 breaks.

In Division Three, Long Sutton C failed to make one of their games in hand on leaders Crowland A pay.

They went down 4-2 at Consti E, with Lindsay Porter (R14) breating Keith Wells (O28) in the final frame.

Elsewhere, Stuart Gravil (O7) made a super 41 break as his Consti C side lost 4-2 against friendly foes Consti J.

Nick Keeble (O28) made a fine 32 break for the victorious J side.

Nick Savic (O49) also sank a 35 break in vain as his Consti A team suffered a 5-1 home humbling at the hands of Bourne SC B.
