Snooker round-up: Holbeach A find their form to defeat leaders Pyramid D

Holbeach A secured their most eye-catching win of the Spalding and District Snooker League Division One season so far on Thursday night as they upset the leaders.

Frame wins from Mick Pearl (O28), Mick Ayres Jnr (R7) and Colin Dodd (O21) fired Holbeach to a 4-2 win at Pyramid D – with Pearl sinking a 22 break.

The victory gives Holbeach some breathing space above the drop zone, while Pyramid’s lead is now just two points.

That’s after second-placed Tulips A battled to a 4-2 triumph of their own at rock-bottom Boundary B.

A 22 break from Brett Maddison (O7) steered the Spalding side to success.

Behind them, Services A have leapfrogged Bourne SC A into third place after handing them a 5-1 reverse.

Not even a 45 break from talisman Mark Gray (O105) could inspire the Bourne side, with Services on-song and benefitting from a 22 break by Vince Fitter (O28) and a 22 clearance from Mike Knight (O21).

Long Sutton A are now on the edge of the title race too, having seen off Donington C 4-2 at home.

A quality contest saw Stuart Atkin (O49) make a 27 clearance, Mathew Smith (O35) and Neil Reynolds (O49) make 25 breaks and Dan Burt (O42) rack up a 24 break.

Towards the foot, Boundary A enjoyed another impressive win as they triumphed 4-2 at Services C.

This one went to the final frame, but it was Stewart Lilley (scr) who got Boundary A over the line.

In Division Two, the title race is wide open with just four points between the top five teams.

Boundary C are a point ahead at the summit following a 4-2 victory over Services B. Important breaks of 30 and 27 from Jim Howe (O49) helped the Deeping side to victory.

Tulips C moved level with fixtureless Consti F in second after a big 5-1 win at Pyramid C, while Donington A are also on the same number of points (76) after going down 4-2 at home against Sutton Bridge.

Breaks of 24 and 22 from Carl Parnell (O28) and Mick Tiller (scr) helped them on their way.

Holbeach B are the other team in the hunt. They are three points further back after a 4-2 win over Gosberton A.

In the basement battle, Donington B enjoyed a welcome 4-2 win over Whittlesey C with Mick Clark (scr) sealing matters in the final frame.

In Division Three, Gosberton C grabbed the big result of the week as they upset runaway leaders Bourne SC B 4-2.

Second-placed Pyramid B also went down by the same scoreline against Whittlesey B – which allowed the chasing pack to close in on the top two.

That includes Whittlesey A, who are one point off second spot following their 4-2 success over Pyramid E.

Mick Blythe’s (R14) win in the penultimate frame settled that contest.

Meanwhile, a 22 break from Nick Keeble (O35) helped steer Consti J to a 5-1 home triumph over Donington D in a game that was closer than the score suggests.
