Snooker round-up: Gallant Gray helps Bourne SC A go top of the table

Bourne SC A have gone top of the Spalding and District Snooker League Division One table after a 4-2 win over Boundary A thanks to a fine showing from star man Mark Gray (O105).

Gray’s side were 1-0 down going into his second frame with Barry Malthouse (R7).

It turned into an epic battle which Gray took 125-113 thanks to breaks of 55 and 30. Oliver Player (O28) and Michael Byrne (R14) then sealed the win.

Previous leaders Holbeach A dropped to fourth in the table after a second successive loss, this time losing 4-2 to Services E who have themselves gone second.

The first three frames all went Services’ way with Jason Rose (O21), Vince Fittter (O14) and Chris Dunmore (O7) winning their frames.

Pyramid A are third after winning 5-1 at Pyramid B.

Tulips B beat Boundary B 4-2 on the very last ball. It came down to Mark Wilkinson (O14) taking on Steve Smith (R7) with Wilkinson winning it for his team on the black.

Scores of 91 from Paul Daw (O21) and 100 from Neil Grant (R7) helped Holbeach D to a 4-2 win over Tulips A.

Donington C came from 2-1 down to defeat Holbeach C 4-2. Lee Hempsall (O7) and Neil Reynolds (O49) with a 41 break put Holbeach in front.

Lee Pickett (O21) and Mark Gregory (O21) though ensured Holbeach took the win in the final frames.

Division Two leaders Services C lost 4-2 to lowly Consti H 4-2, Seb Grimiston (O21) winning his frame with a score of 89 including a 20 break.

However Boundary C failed to take advantage as they lost 5-1 to Long Sutton B.

Carl Parnell (O28) set them on their way with breaks of 40 and 20 to win the first frame with 82 points. Thomas Horspool (O35) won a crucial close frame 73-71 against Martyn McGhee (Scr) before Wayne Howard (O28) and Phillip Goodman (O35) wrapped up the win.

Donington A moved second with a last frame, 4-2 win over Services F.

Jack Chilvers (O28) won a black ball game for Services F to take it to a decider, but Jim Thompson (O7) won the decider for Donington.

Sutton C came from 2-0 down to defeat Whittlesey C.

David Lefley (Scr) began the comeback with a victory on the black before Mark Dennis (O7) and Keith Wells (O35) sealed the win.

Gosberton A beat Services A on the very last ball. Carl Wand (O7) beat Jon Bettinson (Scr) 51-46 in the decider while Pyramid C beat Pyramid D 4-2 and Consti G beat Donington B 5-1.

In the big top of the table clash in Division Three, Crowland C strengthened their grip on top spot with a 5-1 win over Consti I.

John Smears (R7) won the first game on the black but though John Bellerby (Scr) brought the home side level, Jim Howe (O42), with a break of 34 and Paul Spicer (Scr) helped their side to the win.

Consti A picked up a sixth win of the season 4-2 over Consti J. Paul Kent (R21), Graham Walmsley (Scr) and Martyn Johnson (R21) won the first frame, the latter in a black ball game.

A break of 20 from Pyramid E’s John Clapton (R7) in the deciding frame helped his side to a 4-2 win over Consti E.

Whittlesey B enjoyed a whitewash of Consti D as they claimed a 6-0 with all their players scoring over 50, Pawel Skutela with a 22 break.

Basement side Gosberton C picked up a third win of the season defeating Services D 4-3.

The game was sealed by Stuart Tamplin (R14) winning his black ball game 57-52 over Tanya Peel (Scr) and there was an excellent frame win for junior Kieran Richards-Witham (R14).

Consti C beat Bourne B 4-2 in a thriller. Bourne came back from two frames down with Mark Lynch (O14) hitting a break of 20 to take the game to a decider.

Stuart Gravil (R14) though beat Simon Born (O14) to seal the win.

In the Knock Out Cup, Donington A are through to the next round after a thrilling 4-1 victory over Consti F.

The first two frames came down to the black with Nigel Brasier (O7) of Donington beating Justin Stanley (R14) before Robert Adams (O14) brought Consti F level edging out John George (R7).

Kevin Hawes’ 27 clearance helped Donington go 2-1 up before a tied thriller between Tony Scully (O21) and Bryan Turnell (R21) ended in the game being clinched for Scully and Donington on a re-spotted black.

Pyramid A are through following a 4-2 victory over Boundary A. Frame wins from Victor Rouse (R14), Norman Vaughan (O7) and John Twell (O14) sealed the win with Twell claiming a 61-44 win over Stewart Lilley (Scr) in the deciding frame.
