Snooker round-up: Five-star Services B finally get off the mark

Services B finally secured their first win of the Spalding and District Snooker League season on Thursday night as they beat Crowland B 5-1.

The Spalding side were the only side in the three divisions yet to register a victory, but are now very much up and running in Division Two.

Breaks of 25 and 24 from Craig Fitter (O63), plus a cool 23 from Jason Rose (O28), helped Services on their way.

Jim Howe (O42) did reel off a 34 break in the final frame to stave off a whitewash for Crowland, however.

At the top end of the table, leaders Consti G were beaten 4-2 at club mates Consti I. Dick Morgan (R14) grabbed the vital winning frame in that all-club affair.

Also in the second tier, a 20 break from Adam Twigg (O14) failed to stop Gosberton A losing 4-2 at home against Holbeach B in a clash that saw four of the five frames go down to the final black.

Up in Division One, table-toppers Pyramid B made it eight wins from as many games by seeing off Donington C 4-2 on the Bourne baize.

A 35 break from the talented Neil Reynolds (O49) was in vain for the visitors, with Alfonso Palumbo (O49) settling the clash in Pyramid’s favour with a final-frame win.

However, they are now level on points at the top of the standings with Holbeach A, who thrashed hosts Tulips A 6-0.

Not even a week-high 52 break from Bren Bowman (O56) could help the Spalding side, with red-hot Holbeach inspired by a super 37 break from Jem Merrison (O35).

Fellow high-fliers Bourne SC A also picked up an impressive 5-1 victory over Consti F, with talisman Mark Gray (O105) making a 37 break and 27 clearance.

Team-mate Pete Hodgson-Kerry (O21) also chipped in with a 31 break.

Elsewhere in the top tier, Mat Smith’s (O35) 34 break helped Long Sutton A beat Holbeach D 5-1 and a 29 break from Mark Gregory (O21) lit up Holbeach C’s 4-2 victory over Pyramid A.

In Division Three, Nick Savic’s (O49) 32 break was the best individual offering – but his Consti A side lost 4-2 at home to Gosberton C.
Meanwhile, a 24 break from Richard Lowe (O28) and a 22 clearance from Lee Pickett (O14) helped Holbeach E beat Consti E 5-1, while

Whittlesey A won at Consti D by the same scoreline.
