Snooker round-up: Five-star Pyramid B win tussle at the top to stay unbeaten

The only two unbeaten teams in the Spalding and District Snooker League clashed last week – and it was Pyramid B who defeated Gosberton D in a Division Three battle.

Bourne-based Pyramid emerged as 5-1 winners in the titanic tussle on their own baize, with Lester Gaunt (O35) starring with breaks of 27 and 23 in a frame win.

Team-mates Phil Coote (R14), Torquil Scott (O21) and Richard Clark (scr) backed him up with further wins to make it five victories from as many matches this season.

At the other end of the basement division, Consti J secured their first triumph of the new season by defeating club-mates Consti A 4-2.

In a game that went the distance, Stew Davies (O7) defeated Steve Hall (scr) 62-40 in the deciding frame.

However, it’s now five defeats from as many games for Gosberton B as they lost 4-2 at Whittlesey B.

Again, this clash went to the fifth frame with Michael Foster (O7) seeing off Simon Slinger (R7).

Services D also remain winless after going down 5-1 at home against Donington D as Jay Kyle (scr), Ken Staples (R14), Pat Taylor (R21) and Alan Stanley (R7) all won.

The score was 5-1 as Bourne SC B won their Bourne derby at Pyramid E, too, with Jason Bates (O70) sinking a 28 break and Jake Mitchell (O14) managing a cool 25 clearance.

Another side to pick up five points were Consti I, who saw off rivals Consti C.

Up in Division One, two of the early pace-setters – Bourne SC A and Consti B – clashed.

It was the Spalding-based side who took the spoils 4-2 after frame wins from Steve Spencer (R14), Martin Fear (O7) and Mick Johnson (O35).

Holbeach C also slipped up for only the second time this season as friendly foes Holbeach D handed them a 4-2 reverse.

Donald Monk’s (scr) 29 break and Ian Woodberry’s (scr) final frame win were the highlights for the D team.

Another clash of the big-hitters saw Donington C defeat Pyramid F 4-2 in a battle that saw Neil Reynolds (O49) top score with a 33 break.

Services A continued their solid start to the season with a 4-2 victory over Boundary B. Mike Knight (O21) and Pete Fisher (O35) lit up that clash with breaks of 39 and 29 respectively.

At the foot, Tulips A racked up their first win of the campaign by beating Pyramid D 4-2. Talisman Bren Bowman (O56) starred with a 30 break and 25 clearance in the Spalding side.

In Division Two, Boundary C made it four wins from five by beating hosts Consti H 4-2. Mick Walker’s (O28) impressive 42 break made him the star turn for the Deepings side.

Rivals Consti F have an identical record after a 4-2 win of their own at Tulips C.

Robert Adams (O14) impressed in that one, notching a 32 break and a 22 clearance.

Donington A are also tied with the leading duo following their 5-1 home triumph against Pyramid C.

John George (R7) made a 27 clearance in that one.

Elsewhere, Thomas Horspool’s (O42) 34 clearance couldn’t stop Sutton Bridge losing 4-2 at home to Donington B.
