Snooker round-up: Bren’s big break isn’t enough for Tulips A to snap losing streak

A stellar 69 break from Bren Bowman (O49 handicap) couldn’t stop Tulips A slumping to another defeat in Spalding and District Snooker League last Thursday night.

The Spalding side are the only team in the top flight who are yet to register a win after being handed a 4-2 home reverse by Donington C.

Neil Reynolds (O49) was on-song for the victorious away side, reeling off a 45 break in a frame triumph.

It’s a different story for leaders Bourne SC A, who are now seven points clear at the top after a 5-1 home success over Consti B.

Ian Clare (O14), Michael Byrne (R21) and Mark Gray (O105) all won black-ball games for the Bourne side, with the latter making breaks of 34 and 21.

Holbeach C are leading the chasing pack behind them after beating Pyramid B 5-1 – despite a 30 break from Jason Green (O70).

Also on-song were Services E, who are a point further back after seeing off Boundary B 4-2.

Steve Smith’s (R7) 24 break was in vain for the Deepings side, while team-mate Dougy Lythgoe (O14) added a 22 break.

The score was also 4-2 as Tulips B knocked off hosts Consti F. Mark Woodberry (O56) was on fine form for the victorious Tulips, sinking breaks of 26 and 25 before finishing with a 27 clearance.

Team-mate Ady Sibley (O14) also chipped in with a 22 clearance for Tulips, who are 12 points off the pace.

They are also level on points with Boundary A, after the Deepings team beat Holbeach D 4-2.

Stewart Lilley (O7) settled that clash by beating Ian Woodberry (O7) 4-2 in the final frame.

In Division Two, Boundary C are two points clear at the summit following a 4-2 win at Holbeach B.

They are now clear of Services C, who went down 4-2 at club-mates Services A. Jon Bettinson’s (scr) final-frame victory over Kevin Fitter (O14) was key in that one.

Also two points off the pace are Donington A. They picked up a 5-1 victory over friendly foes Donington B, with Nigel Brasier (scr) reeling off a 22 clearance.

That five-point haul was matched by Whittlesey C, who find themselves three points further back.

Breaks of 22 and 21 from Ben Peppercorn (O14) and Andy Gebbie (R7) respectively were the highlights of that clash.

Elsewhere, Consti H remain bottom after a 4-2 home defeat against Pyramid C. Alan Jackson’s (O14) win over Seb Grimston (O21) at the death clinched the points.

Another side winning 4-2 were Consti G. They edged out Pyramid D, with Andy Grimwood (O14) sinking a 28 break.

Down in Division Three, Crowland C made it six wins from as many games with a 6-0 whitewash win over hosts Services D.

They are eight points clear of Consti C, who beat Services B 4-2 despite a 22 clearance from Paul Doades (R7).

Team-mates Consti I are in third, one point further back, following their 5-1 success over Consti D. Their wins came from Pete Stokes (R7), Stewart Wells (R21), John Bellerby (R7) and David Twelves (R14).

It was also good week for Donington D, who brushed Bourne SC B aside 5-1. Consti E picked up a 4-2 win at Gosberton B too, while Michael Foster’s (O14) 20 break couldn’t stop Whittlesey B losing 4-2 at Pyramid E.
