Snooker round-up: Boundary A’s unblemished start dashed by Pyramid A

The final unbeaten record in Division One of the Spalding and District Snooker League disappeared on Thursday as Boundary A went down 5-1 at Pyramid A.

After winning their first three games, the Deepings side were soundly beaten in Bourne as Victor Rouse (R7), Paul Blackbourn (R14), Norman Vaughan (O14) and John Twell (O7) all won their frames handsomely.

Also in the top flight, a 40 break from Matt Smith (O35) helped Sutton Bridge B defeat Pyramid D 4-2.
Smith also won the final frame to clinch the contest in his team’s favour.

That 40 break was matched by Mark Gray (O105) as his Bourne SC A side defeated Services C.

Gray was beaten by Shane Cummins, but Pete Hodgson Kerry (O21), Ian Gibson (scr) and Oliver Player (O28) got the Bourne boys over the line.

Another solid break came from Neil Reynolds (O49), as his 37 was key in Donington C’s 5-1 win over Consti E.

It was tight, meanwhile, as Consti G saw off Consti B despite a 25 break from Mick Johnson (O35) for the latter.

The score was 4-2 as Holbeach A beat Holbeach C with Paul Boucher (O35) making breaks of 23 and 20, while Vince Fitter’s (O28) 29 break helped Services F edge past Holbeach D by the same margin.

In Division Two, Bourne SC C made it four wins from four as they got the better of hosts Holbeach B 4-2. A 24 break from Barry Haynes (O7) was in vain for Holbeach.

It was a tight week all-round in the second tier, with the rest of the games finishing 4-2.

Whittlesey C beat hosts Boundary B, despite a 23 break from Mick Walker (O35).

It was similar as Donington A saw off hosts Holbeach E with Ben Harding (O28) notching a 24 break for the beaten hosts.

It was even closer as Jeff Collins (R7) bagged a black ball win over Geoff Wand (R14) to seal a 4-2 victory for Services B over Gosberton A.

The 4-2 theme continued with Services E getting past Donington B.

It went to the final frame with Russell Morse (O7) defeating Mick Clarke (scr).

In Division Three, Gosberton B continued their strong start with a 4-2 victory at Consti J.

Simon Slinger (R14) settled this one in the penultimate frame, moving his side up to second in the table.

The biggest winners of the week were Pyramid B, who handed their hosts Whittlesey A a 5-1 reverse.

Reegan Cooke-Holmes (R14), Lester Gaunt (O42), Richard Clark (O7) and Alfonso Palumbo (O49) got the frame wins, but Graeme Sawyer’s (O7) 21 break was the highlight.

Elsewhere, Whittlesey B handed hosts Pyramid E a 4-2 beating as Andy Skutela (R7) took the final frame decider.

It was the same story as Gosberton D got past club mates Gosberton C 4-2, with Andy Adair’s (scr) 56-41 triumph over Andy Shepherd (R21) at the death key.

Closer still was the all Consti-affair between the I and D teams.

With the scores level, John Cooper (R21) won the last frame on the final black to give the D team a 4-2 win.
