Snooker round-up: Beaten Sutton Bridge A miss big chance to seize control in Division Two

Sutton Bridge A will be kicking themselves after missing the chance to take command of the Spalding and District Snooker League Division Two title race on Thursday night.

Leaders Bourne SC C remain two points clear at the summit despite going down 4-2 at Consti H – as Bridge A lost at third-placed Bourne SC B by the same score.

Frame wins from Joe Carr (O7), Garry Surridge (O7) and Mark Stoker (scr) did the business for Bourne B, who are now nine points behind Sutton Bridge who saw Glenn Ryan (O14) make a 30 break.

Bridge, who have a game in hand over leaders Bourne C, who have gone top with a victory after the table-topping side’s loss at Consti, who had Doug Garfoot’s (O28) final frame triumph to thank for their win.

At the other end of the table, basement side Holbeach F picked up their fifth win of the season as they dispatched hosts Gosberton A 4-2.

Victories from Colin Dodd (O21), James Quinton (O7) and Denis Hix (R14) got them over the line.

Elsewhere in Division Two, a fine 33 break from George Neary-Phillips (O21) helped Services E to a 4-2 home win over Whittlesey C and Tony Scully (O35) sank a 22 clearance as Donington A lost 4-2 versus visitors Donington B.

Up in Division One, Pyramid A are nine points clear at the summit after beating Consti E 4-2.

A 24 break from Norman Vaughan (O14) was their highlight, while a 22 clearance from Nathan Wilson (O21) in frame one was Consti’s best moment.

Second-placed Holbeach C slipped up 4-2 at home against Consti B as they lost ground on the leaders.

A 24 break and 22 clearance from Mark Gregory (O35) put Holbeach ahead with two frames to play, but John Christian (R7) and Steve Spencer (R21) won them to give Consti the glory.

Behind them, third-placed Pyramid C picked up a 4-2 success over club mates Pyramid D.

Spencer Dawkins (O56) impressed for the C side with two breaks of 26 en-route to winning the first frame.

Boundary A, who are fourth, slipped up 4-2 at Bourne SC A and are now 15 points off the lead.

Elsewhere in the top tier, Vince Fitter (O35) made the break of the week as his 48 helped Services A defeat Holbeach A 4-2.

Darren Woodberry (O42) pocketed breaks of 34 and 29 as he secured one of Holbeach’s points in defeat.

Also racking up a strong score was Mat Smith (O35), who managed a 35 break in Sutton Bridge C’s dominant 6-0 win over lowly Consti G.

In Division Three, Consti I are the new leaders as they enjoyed a big 6-0 win over Whittlesey B with John Bellerby (R7) making a 21 break.

Previous leaders Pyramid B are now two points off the pace in second after they slipped up 4-2 at Consti J. Stewart Davies (O7) settled that one in the final frame.

The best break at this level came from Nic Savic (O49), who reeled off scores of 36 and 28 as his Consti A side saw off Gosberton B 4-2 in a close contest.
