Slim pickings at Tydd Gote Angling Club’s latest match as weather is the big winner

The cold weather put paid to any hopes of good weights at Tydd Gote Angling Club’s matches this week.

On the Wednesday Open, Boston expert Dennis Houghton attracted a 3lb tench and some roach to his pinkie hookbait for a modest 5lb 8oz.

Venue regular Dave Simmonds was close behind thanks to an all roach net of 3lb 14oz, caught at 8m with pinkie over groundbait.

Mark Chesterton was third with 3lb 2oz, just edging Dave Milburn’s level 3lb.

At the Sunday Club match, the overnight rain and hail had found its way into the drain, putting the fish off the feed, so much so that the die-hards lining the bank failed to register a single fish between them.

Although, frustratingly, there were dozens of good fish topping in the low number pegs by the bridge as the match ended.
