The G&S Racing Kawasaki team headed to Kent for round six of the Pirelli National Superstock and Junior Superstock championships which took place at Brands Hatch on Sunday.
Jorel Boerboom overcame the weather conditions to finish his race within the top 20 in the Superstock class and Asher Durham consolidated his second place in the Junior Superstock series with a top six finish to his race.
Derby rider Durham won his first race in the Junior Superstock series last time out and was hopeful of adding to his tally of wins at Brands Hatch but things didn’t go quite to plan for him.
He was unable to get a clear lap in during qualifying as he was held up in traffic in the busy session and he ended up in 14th place to start his race from the middle of the fifth row.
After heavy rain on Saturday the track was still damp in places on Sunday morning as the riders took their positions on the grid.
As the lights went out Durham got a good start and made up five places on the opening lap to ninth place. By lap five he was up to eighth and with two laps remaining he made it through to sixth. But championship leader Aaron Silvester was challenging him on the final lap but on the dash to the flag Durham was able to hold his position and crossed the finish line in sixth position, just six hundredths of a second ahead of Silvester.
Durham remains in second position in the rider standings but as he finished ahead of Silvester he picked up two extra points to bring the deficit between them down to 23 points.
Meanwhile Boerboom had a problem during qualifying as the bike had an ECU failure and he was only able to qualifying for a ninth row start to his first race.
It was a quick dash to MSS Kawasaki in Colchester to fetch a replacement unit. They returned and the replacement fitted with less than five minutes to go before the race on Saturday.
The weather was dire for the race with heavy rain falling but it didn’t bother Boerboom as he made up six places on the first lap to 20th position. By lap nine of 12 he was up into 18th position but one lap later he was passed by Max Morgan and had to be satisfied with 19th place at the flag.
The second race saw Boerboom fall down the order through the first few laps to retire to the pits with a technical problem.
Team manager Tom Fisher said: “Well that was an eventful weekend with the weather and a few niggles but we came through it unscathed.
“Asher was unlucky in qualifying and that reflected in his result. He had the pace to be with the leaders and rode well to reduce the gap to the series lead.
“Jorel was riding well in the rain and made it up into the top 20. But then on Sunday he encountered a problem with the bike and had to retire.
“Many thanks as usual to our sponsors and supporters, we move on to the next round at Thruxton on August 11/13.”
