Singers pick up cash for schools

Bakkavor’s Spalding staff shop committee presented three winning school choirs with prizes of £500, £250 and £100 as part of their support for the town’s Christmas Light Switch On celebrations.

Following the success of the previous year, nine schools from the area took part in this year’s singing competition bringing a great festive atmosphere to the beginning of the Christmas celebrations.

There was a mix of both primary and secondary schools participating.

Taking first prize was St John the Baptist School winning £500, second prize went to Ayscoughfee Hall School winning £250, followed by Priory School who received third place and £100.

Terry Moore, committee chairman, said: “It was great that the number of schools taking part increased this year following the success of 2013.

“The standard of entries was particularly high, making it a fantastic festive evening for the town.

“As a local employer we are proud to support such an event and I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a happy New Year.”
