Shops in discount scheme for Spalding Water Taxi passengers

A discount scheme for shops and eateries in Spalding town centre and at Springfields Outlet Shopping starts with the relaunch of Spalding Water Taxi on Good Friday.

Passengers on the service will be entitled to savings ranging from five per cent to 15 per cent at six town centre retailers – Beales Department Store, Bookmark, Charmed Interiors, Hughes, Revills and Riverview Cafe (at Hills Department Store).
Many places at Springfields are also in the voucher scheme, which was devised by the water taxi and Spalding town centre manager Dennis Hannant and runs until June 7.

Through the winter, Spalding Water Taxi has also been marketing Discover Spalding as a day visit, resulting in monthly bookings from coach tour operators and individual groups. And a Discover Spalding roadshow will visit Peterborough, Nottingham, Leicester and Lincoln in the coming weeks.

The water taxi, which operates between the town centre and Springfields, is embarking on its 11th season.
Catered cruises are a new addition this year. The first of the monthly charter trips is on Thursday, April 23.
Bookings for self-drive boat hire and the 47ft luxury narrowboat All Welland Good are going well. Anyone making a narrowboat booking at an open day at the water taxi boarding point in Double Street on Saturday (11am-4pm) will get a ten per cent discount.

Broadgate Homes chief executive Ian Canham said: “Broadgate Homes are happy to once again be supporting the Spalding Water Taxi for the coming season.
“The town has taken it to their hearts from the very start and hopefully it adds to the charm of the town in return. It seems a long time ago when the idea of a water taxi was seen as fanciful, now it is hard to imagine the town without it.”
