Sharks are too strong for Orcas in Spalding Water Polo derby

The first all-Spalding Water Polo battle in the East Midlands League saw the Sharks edge out the Orcas 9-7.

It was the Orcas who were first on the scoresheet with quick goals from John James and Calvin Wilson, but Ed Martin and Gareth Lord hit back to make it 2-2 at the end of the first quarter.

Goals from Tom Marsters and another from James gave the Orcas a 4-3 lead at the end of the second quarter, the Sharks goal coming from Jack Carpenter.

The Sharks then took charge in the third quarter, scoring four goals courtesy of Martin (2), Carpenter and Tim Shields, although the Orcas scored once through Nick Rickett to make it 7-5.

The final quarter was evenly matched, with both teams scoring two goals each. Shields and Carpenter bagged for the Sharks, with Ben Marsters and Phil James on target for the Orcas.
