Spalding proved to be no match for title-chasing Grantham in the Lincolnshire County Board Premier League.
The hosts could make only 105 runs in 40 overs, replying to Grantham’s 226/8. Spalding enjoyed some early success with Nil Attapatu (2-25) removing both openers with only 50 on the board.
However, solid scoring all down the order proved the key to victory, with the top eight all in double figures, topped by Usman Afzaal’s unbeaten 51.
Brandon Andrews finished with 2-43 and there were wickets for three more of the other five bowlers used.
Chris Dring fell lbw to the first ball he faced and only Olli Dring (12) of the top seven batsmen reached double-figures as the hosts slumped to 46/7. A late flurry from Josh Lawrence (25), Brandon Andrews (18), Attapatu (13) and Will Gardner (11no), restored some pride.
South Lincs and Border League Championship leaders Long Sutton stayed 21 points clear with a six-wicket win over Woodhall Spa.
The visitors made a solid start and reached 130/3 but then lost their remaining seven wickets for the addition of only nine more runs as Jake Burton (4-27) and Josh Baker (2-9) came to the fore.
Sutton began their reply slowly and were in trouble at 40/3 before Paul Edgeller (54no) steadied things with Dan Oldfield (27) and Rajan Sangha (16no) propelling them to a winning 143/4.
Moulton Harrox are third, 17 points behind Skegness who hold the second promotion place, after a comfortable nine-wicket win against Orton Park.
Chris Beale lost the toss and Moulton were stuck into field first. Matt Rose and Simon Juckes began a brutal working over of the Orton top order. Juckes dislodged the top three and Lee Eyett hoodwinked the middle-order.
Mohammad Alam snuck two quick wickets before Matt Rose came back to take one alongside Harry Lovell as Orton were all out for an under-par 121.
Matt Barnett and Jamie Juckes opened the batting, with Juckes grabbing a quick 20 before being bowled.
Barnett continued to preserve his wicket, eventually reaching an unbeaten 28, in support of Josh Newton who clobbered the ball to all parts, eventually reaching 61 from 53 balls as the victory target was reached.
Spalding Seconds secured a 41-run win at Boston in Division One.
Robert Seymour (51no) and Yuvraj Ranaut (38) top-scored in the visitors’ 149/8.
That did not look to be much of a target when Boston reached 83/1. However, Seymour (4-14)
swapped bat for ball in impressive fashion to reduce them to 88/4 with Neo Timothy weighing in with 4-19. The last eight batsmen mustered only 21 runs as Boston were bowled out for 108.
Moulton Harrox Seconds enjoyed a five-wicket win at Orton Park, after losing the toss worked in their favour.
Mark Ramsden’s side were asked to field first and, striking early, Cam Fox took two quick wickets.
Orton opener Navneet Agnihotri (33) offered some resistance but the round arm of Danny Jackson put an end to his innings thanks to some quick work behind the stumps from Ramsden.
Jackson (4-27) went on to take three more wickets, well supported by Joe Broomfield (0-19) who bowled tightly. Alex Baker took two wickets. Youngster Anish Suwarneraj continued to impress with a wicket as Orton were bowled out for 132.
Clyde Bayston opened with Lewis Martin, putting on a strong first-wicket partnership. When Bayston fell, Broomfield bludgeoned his way to 29 before being bowled. Contributions from Martin (36), Karl Hibbert (15no) and Lewis Peak (13no) saw Moulton reach 134/5 with almost 12 overs to spare.
A strong third-wicket stand between Angus Bell (23) and Zack Rowlett (15) offered brief hope for Long Sutton Seconds before they fell to an eight-wicket defeat at Belton in Division Two. They proved to be the only visiting batsmen to reach double figures as five of the seven home bowlers enjoyed wicket success to bowl Sutton out for a mere 76.
Sutton had an early success with one opener failing to score but the hosts cruised to victory for the loss of only one more wicket inside 24 overs.
Rutland Sunday League Division Two leaders Long Sutton suffered a rare defeat. A rain-affected match saw them being set an artificial target of 152 in 24 overs, in reply to Oakham’s 285/8 from their full 45 overs.
Although they gave it a good try, they could make only 146/8.
The Oakham openers scored 103 between them and a later partnership yielded another three-figure total, despite the efforts of Josh Baker (3-44) and Charlie Crisp (2-56).
Five Sutton batsmen played themselves in, only to lose their wicket just as they looked on their way to a decent score with Dan Oldfield (31), Josh Baker (29), Jack Baker (21), Calvin Bird (21) and Dan Plant (19) all frustrated.
A four-wicket haul from Andy Shaw (4-28) was not enough to secure a Division Four East victory for Long Sutton.
He helped reduce Royal Strikers Peterborough to 156 all out but Sutton could muster only 135 in reply with Jack Smith (26) the top scorer.
