Seven goals on the hockey scoresheet for
Spalding men’s 2nds

Old Southendian 1st 4
Spalding Men’s 1st 1

Goal: Stu Cunnington; MoM: Matthew Peach
Spalding made the journey to Southend looking for their first win of the season but found themselves 2-0 down within five minutes.
Spalding regained some composure and began to assert their authority but were unable to take any chances. They were unlucky to find themselves 4-0 down after 20 minutes, through two dubious back stick decisions that went against them.
Spalding came out fighting in the second half and Cunnington struck gold making it 4-1.

Spalding Men’s 2nd 7
Kettering 2nd 3
Goals: Aaron Scholes (2), Darren Grooby, Jacob Drew, Dan Azzopardi, Pete Wright, Harry Blackman

Spalding Men’s 2nd started the stronger against Kettering and went ahead after ten minutes with a neat reverse strike by Drew. They made it two shortly after when Grooby slotted home.
Kettering were kept at bay by the Spalding defensive line.
Spalding punished Kettering’s sloppy play again to take a 4-0 lead into the break.
The second half was a formality for Spalding who scored another three goals from Wright, Scholes and Azzopardi.

Cambridge City 5th 1
Spalding Men’s 3rd 2
Goals: Graeme Matthews, Jack Martin

Spalding Men’s 3rd came out of the blocks firing at Cambridge City 5th, making it 1-0 inside five minutes with Matthews putting away a strike from just inside the D.
Not long later, Martin made it 2-0 with a tap in at the back post.
The second half started fairly evenly before Cambridge scored from a short corner.

Spalding Men’s 4th 2
St Ives 5th 0
Goals: Matthew Hicks, Ed Sly

It was imperative Spalding put up a good fight against Saturday’s opposition of St Ives.
They started strongly with some great movement and smart plays which pressed their opposition into defence.
After some great chances, Spalding struggled to get that final touch into the goal.
In the second half, they managed to get their first goal through a short corner with Sly hitting it in from the top of the D.
Towards the end of the game, Hicks was rewarded for his persistence when he slotted in the final goal of the game to secure the win.
