Schools score well in league tables

A village school with just 64 pupils has topped the latest primary school performance tables in South Holland.

Moulton Chapel Primary School leads the way in the district after 100 per cent of its pupils achieved level four or above in reading, writing and maths at Key Stage 2.
It was one of just 15 schools across the whole of Lincolnshire to do so.
The performance tables were released last week and show the national average is 80 per cent of children reaching the target.
Headteacher Lisa Meacher said the success was down to the hard work of staff and pupils.
She said: “It was very pleasing to see that their efforts were recognised in the SATs last year.
“We are very proud of the work all our children do in the school. There were no magic ingredients to the improvements except for continued good quality teaching and year on year catering for the needs of our children in order for them to reach their full potential!”
In total 15 South Holland Schools were above the national average.
Pinchbeck East Primary was the second best in the district, with 95 per cent of pupils achieving the desired level.
It also came second when compared to similar schools across the county and eighth out of 125 similar schools nationally.
The school’s executive headteacher Tom Verity also oversees Surfleet Primary School, which saw the percentage of its pupils reaching the target jump from 40 per cent in 2014 to 83 per cent this year,
Mr Verity’s other school, Spalding Primary also improved – from 72 per cent to 77 per cent.
He said: “The figures are down to the hard work and dedication of all the staff at all the schools, as well as the support of the parents, governors and, of course, the fantastic children.
“I am fortunate to work with such a talented group of teachers.
“Surfleet school has worked incredibly hard and deserves such improved results.
“Pinchbeck continues to maintain its outstanding results and our aim is for all three schools to be outstanding.
“All three continue to go from strength to strength and will continue to do so in the long-term.”
Across Lincolnshire, 79 per cent of pupils achieved Level 4 or above in reading, writing and maths at Key Stage 2 – up two per cent from last year.
Coun Patricia Bradwell, executive councillor for Lincolnshire Council Council‘s Children’s Services, said: “Whilst we are pleased with the progress that’s been made, we are ambitious and want all our schools to be performing at the highest level for their pupils.
“This is a key priority for everyone working in education across the county.
“We know how hard our children, young people, staff and governors work, and the support that is given by parents and carers.
“We want to make sure that all our children and young people in every area of the county have the best possible opportunities to learn.”
