School’s new chapter opened

A children’s author has officially opened a new chapter for a Spalding school.

The new library, outdoor reading and play areas at Wygate Park Academy were officially opened by Land of Roar series writer Jenny McLachlan.
She spent time with pupils doing workshops around artwork and imaginary characters, and carried out book signings.
Pupils from various year groups also sang for visitors.
All of the new facilities have been designed to help children continue their learning while at play and throughout the whole school day.
Wygate Park Academy headteacher Dr Craig Early said: “We are excited to have completed these huge projects at our amazing academy – our dedicated outdoor reading area compliments our brand-new library beautifully, while our feature-packed new Early Years Foundation Stage Outdoor Area is a brilliant addition for our younger pupils.
“All of these projects support the two things we are passionate about at Wygate Park – Early Years and reading.
“The areas correlate with current research around giving children the best opportunities to learn in the earliest stages of their educational development in EYFS – and also how to encourage, develop and embed a lifelong love of reading through providing unique, interesting, comfortable and calm spaces for children to read and discuss books in.
“The children already love all of the new areas!
“A special mention must go to the Voyage Executive Team for backing the school in its ambitious plans to improve opportunities for all of our pupils.”
