School rocks into national finals

A choir from a Spalding SEND (special educational needs and disabilities) school will perform their song for a celebrity panel after being named as a finalist in a national competition.

Pupils from the Tulip Academy entered the School Song UK competition at the end of the last school year.

And the start of the new one is already a celebration after they were named in the final 10 selections to gain the coveted title.

There’s cash prizes for the top three places.

Mrs Catherine Thirsk wrote the music and lyrics to the song, a recording of which was sang by pupils from both of its campuses and sent to the competition which is in aid of the charities Great Ormond Street and Grief Encounter.

A spokesman for the school said: “We submitted our entry, which was listened to by a judging panel, with backgrounds in music, singing and song writing.

“Tulip Academy have now made it into the final 10 and our pupils will now have the incredible experience of performing in front of a celebrity panel.

“Music increases creativity and imagination, boosts self-esteem and confidence, so we decided to enter because we knew our pupils would find it lots of fun, and the competition is in aid of Great Ormond Street and Grief Encounter too.

“We wish them luck.”
