Lincolnshire school pupils achieving a grade 4 or above in English and maths GCSE is above the national average.
The latest figures released by the government have shown the county to be about average in several categories.
But the news was a bit more mixed for schools in the Spalding area.
While 97 per cent of students at Spalding Grammar School achieved Grade 4 or above in maths and English, the figure at The Peele Community College, Long Sutton, was 45 per cent.
At the higher Grade 5, the figures showed The Peele at 19 per cent, Spalding Academy 25 per cent, University Academy Holbeach, 27 per cent, Spalding High School and Spalding Grammar School both achieved figures of 79 per cent.
But Lincolnshire County Council issued a statement saying the results were a “good response” to the new grading system which was introduced last year.
“It has been a difficult year for students in the transition to graded numbers in English and maths, but there’s plenty of positives for Lincolnshire at GCSE.
“In particular, the number of students securing passes in the more challenging GCSEs for English and maths is a significant achievement. Pupils have risen to the challenge and deserve every credit for achieving these results,” said Coun Patricia Bradwell, executive member for children’s services.
“The latest Department for Education tables show that our students have done incredibly well to maintain standards. They were the first group in Lincolnshire to complete the new GCSEs in English and maths.
“Lincolnshire’s schools continue to excel in providing the platform for pupils to perform their best,” said Debbie Barnes, director of children’s services.
