School hockey: Moulton John Harrox A dominant yet again as 160 youngsters enjoy tournament

Spalding Hockey Club hosted the fourth Spalding Primary Schools Hockey Tournament on Friday with 160 youngsters from 13 different schools taking part.

As ever, the 18 teams competing at Glen Park were split into four leagues – with an advanced and three graded beginner leagues.

Moulton John Harrox A once again dominated the advanced league, winning all three of their games without conceding a goal. In their opening game, they beat newly promoted Boston-based Tower Road A 3-0 and went on to beat Ayscoughfee A by the same score, before completing an outstanding day with a 5-0 win over Gosberton Risegate.

Tower Road A proved to be the surprise package of the league and after their defeat in the opening game, went on to beat Gosberton Risegate (5-0) and Ayscoughfee A (5-1) to clinch second place.

In the Beginner A League, Spalding’s Monks House continued their impressive development, winning all three of their matches.

They opened up with a win over St John’s (3-1) and then beat Eye Primary (2-0) to set up a clash with Boston-based St Thomas’s who had also won their two games.

Monks House won 5-1 to finish top of the tree.

It was Tower Road B who dominated the five team Beginner B League, with three wins and a draw. They were held 1-1 by Ayscoughfee B, but went on to beat St Norbert’s, John Harrox B and Gosberton Academy A (all 3-0) to finish top.

Ayscoughfee B and Gosberton Academy finished in equal second place with identical records, each recording a win and two draws.

Gosberton Academy B showed that they have strength in depth at the school as they took the honours in the Beginner C league with three wins and a draw.

They opened with an impressive win (2-1) over Spalding Primary and continued with wins over Pinchbeck East (1-0) and John Harrox C (1-0).

In the final deciding game, they were held to a 0-0 draw by Surfleet Primary, who were second.
