Scarecrows on parade in village’s day of fun

Mr Bean made a guest appearance in South Holland at the weekend, but he didn’t say much.

Dolly Parton arrived to join the fun on Saturday as well. She had nothing to say either.

It may well have had something to do with the fact they were made of straw and taking part in the Cowbit Scarecrow Festival.

Resident Claire Pell came up with the idea and she hopes the festival will return next year to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee – along with a Punt Gun Salute over Cowbit Wash.

The winners were revealed at the village fun day when around 80 voting forms were counted.

The winner was the Waters family’s Harry Potter and the Curse of Cowbit, followed by Mr Bean, at Willow Court and the Dodson family came third with Singing in the Rain.

It was a fund day all round in Cowbit as the scarecrow festival coincided with the Fun in the Park event returning to the village.

Organiser James Wilson-White, said: “It went really well despite the weather which did not stop people from coming.

“The entertainment went down really well. We had vocalist Hannah Bourner sing in the afternoon and then in the evening we had two absolutely amazing bands on in Uprising followed by Reckless who were amazing.

“We are already starting to plan our next one for June 4 2022.”
