Two friends are about to set out on a charity walk from London to Birmingham.

Saracen’s Head residents Andy Stafford and Clive Woods expect to take a week to walk the 147 miles from Canary Wharf to England’s second city along the route of the Grand Union Canal.
Their efforts will fundraise for Cancer Research.

Andy said: “Nine years ago Clive – my best friend – was struck down overnight with rheumatoid arthritis and went from being a living-life-to-the-full character to a guy that had to drive next door to work due to the excruciating pain and swollen joints.
“Three years ago and thanks to Cancer Research funding, a trial drug was made available and the transformation can only be described as amazing.
“I have other good friends that have also suffered with cancer and again thanks to the funding of this great charity are thankfully still here to enjoy life.
“Some are not so lucky.”

Andy and Clive did a 95-mile hike along the Kennet and Avon Canal last year, raising around £1,500 split equally between MS and Stroke Association.
Andy said: “This year we have raised the bar and with the help of donations are hoping to raise a good amount of cash for this fund that affects so many people.”

The walk starts on Wednesday and the pair expect to do 24 miles per day.
Andy said: “What is amazing is that Clive undertook the drug trial. The fact that he could not walk ten yards and now is attempting 150 miles says it all.”
